October 2009 Flying Star Feng Shui Energy

Below is the Flying Star feng shui chart for October 2009.

October 2009 Flying Star Energy

October 2009 Flying Star Energy

If you draw an outline of your office or home floor plan and then put a tic-tac-toe symbol over it you will have the bagua for your building. (There’s actually a little more to it than this but in general this will work for you.) Once you have this you can label the directions so you know which energy will affect the different guas of your office or home.

The easiest way to activate the positive guas (areas in your home) is to keep these areas busy. Have the kids play here, hold meetings in this area of your office and if your front door is in a positive gua that will stir up the energy, too.

You can reduce the effects of the negative guas by keeping these areas quiet. If possible, don’t use these areas at all because the more activity you have here the more you will stir up the energy that will create the challenges you see here in the chart.

For example, if your main door is in the Northwest try to use it as much as possible this month if you want to travel or travel a lot already. If your front door is in the East it’s better if you use a different door to come and go from your home or business to avoid financial loss or theft.

An easier way to activate the beneficial guas and cure the negative ones is to place your feng shui activations and cures. That way you don’t have to worry about whether you need to use or avoid certain doors or rooms each month.

You can get your feng shui cures and activations each month by going here: Flying Star Feng Shui for 2009. In addition to giving you everything you need to experience the best energy possible you’ll also get your personal feng shui outlook for the month.

How to Feng Shui for Better Health

Did you know that each area of the feng shui bagua not only represents an area of your life but also different parts of your body?  It’s true.

Whenever I hear a mom talking about her child’s ear infection or people who have to deal with chronic headaches or migraines I recommend they look at the area of their home and their bedroom linked to the part of the body that’s having problems.

For example, let’s say your child has an ear infection.  The ears are represented by the north area of your home so start by looking there for clues.  Is there a lot of clutter here?  Do you have a leaky window?  Is a doorknob loose?  Are there broken objects here?

Taking time to clean up and make repairs can help ‘clean up and repair’ the problems your child is having with his or her ears especially if the problem is chronic.  (Obviously you’ll want to see your doctor or health care practitioner too.)

So be sure to use feng shui to energize your health as well as help you in other areas of your life.

How to Fix Bad Office Feng Shui

Feng shui your office

Feng shui your office

Most of my clients work in an office whether at home or in a business building and often they tell me that they have a hard time focusing at work.  So I thought I’d tell you what I tell them when I give them classical feng shui advice.

First, make sure your space is as free of clutter as possible.  Clutter stops energy flow and also keeps new energy from coming in which creates stagnation around you.

Think about a stagnant pond.  It gets murkey and makes it hard for fish, turtles and other things to thrive.  In other words it’s lifeless.  It’s hard to be creative and energetic in space that’s lifeless and void of new energy.

Next make sure you’re sitting facing one of your best directions.  In an office environment this usually means facing your personal Success or personal Relationship direction.  When you do this you’re able to gain more recognition for your work and communicate more easily with co-workers, your boss, your clients, vendors, etc.

A great example of what happens when you don’t face one of your four best directions happened to a lawyer client of mine.  I was doing a feng shui consultation for his home and he happened to mention he wanted to set up a home office.

I explained how two of his best direction would suit him as well as the room he had chosen for his office and he began to tell me that in his office at work he had a hard time concentrating.  He said that he often had to get up and walk around to clear his head and within a few minutes of sitting down again he’d feel aggitated again.

It turns out that he had an L-shaped desk and the way the desk was positioned in his office his only choices were to face his Frustration direction and his Theft direction.  When I told him this he said, “That’s exactly how I feel!  I feel frustrated when I’m in there.”

No wonder!

You’ll also want to sit with your back to a solid wall to create support for yourself in the position you hold.  This also gives you the support you need from your boss and co-workers.

Your desk should also be out of the line of the doorway and you want to be able to clearly see the doorway from where you’re sitting.  If this isn’t possible then place a  mirror so that you can see people coming in and out when you look into it from your desk.

Energy is not mysterious.  In fact it’s affecting you all the time no matter whether you’re paying attention to it or not so the key is to get it to work  for you rather than against you, especially if you’re going to be affected by it 8 hours or more each day.

Bad Feng Shui Advice

I spend a lot of time answering feng shui questions that come into my website, on Twitter and on various other internet sites and am amazed at the amout of bad advice people have received.  Here are some examples:

  1. “For the best feng shui move your furniture every 6 months” – WRONG!  if you feng shui is set up correctly the first time you shouldn’t ever have to move your furniture.
  2. “Putting water on the right side of your front door will cause your husband to have an affair.”  – WRONG!  This one is so baffling I’m not even sure how to respond.  Water by the front door is fine if you’re using Compass Feng Shui and your front door is in the north.  It’s also fine if you’re using Flying Star feng shui and the Water Star is auspicious.  Left and right have nothing to do with the placement.
  3. “My neighbor told me to put a crystal at my front door.” – Maybe, it depends on what direction your front door is located.  Crystals work best in the SW and NE so unless your front door is in these locations putting a crystal there doesn’t make sense.

You get the idea.

So my question to you is would you take medical advice from a math teacher or plumbing advice from a shoe salesman or party planning advice from a monk?  If not then I’d suggest not taking feng shui advice from your neighbor or your friend who read a book or your sister-in-law who knows a guy who knows a guy who had a feng shui consultation done because there’s a better than 90% chance you’re going to get bad (though well intentioned) advice.

How to Sell Your Home with Feng Shui

Selling your home in today’s market can be tough. The depressed real estate market, exorbitant insurance rates and a buyer’s market have created a strong headwind. Feng shui, which is the placement of objects based on compass directions, can be an effective antidote to these challenges. In fact, feng shui is used by powerful people in the real estate community including Donald Trump, K. Hovnanian and other large residential real estate developers.

Feng shui can improve the energy level in your home giving it a more welcome feeling to potential buyers. Here are some specific tips to enhance the opportunity for you to sell your home:

• Make any necessary repairs. Although this may sound like an obvious suggestion, broken door knobs, peeling paint and torn window screens represent more than just eye sores and inconvenience. Broken objects of any kind represent broken energy (or ch’i as it is referred to in feng shui). When energy is broken it is prevented from flowing through your home and gets “stuck” in the broken places. To get buyers’ interest in your home flowing you have to get the energy flowing.

• De-clutter everywhere you can. Spend 15 minutes a day de-cluttering your home. Have a waste basket available for items you want to throw away, a box for items you want to give away and another box for items you want to sell. If you don’t need it or don’t love it, get rid of it. De-cluttering helps the energy in your home flow more freely. It also gives your home a more open and relaxed feeling.

• After sundown, turn the lights on at the back of your home for at least five hours in the evening. Make sure the lights are shining on the back of your home and not out into the yard. The lights send a message that you are ready to leave your home and have someone new move in.

• In the Northwest and Southeast areas of your home place a copy of your Listing Agreement with the word SOLD! written across it in your handwriting. The Northwest represents the helpful people area of your home and the Southeast represents the wealth area of your home. By placing copies of your contract in these areas you are stating your intent to bring in the right people to help you sell your home and to buy your home at an offer that’s attractive for you and your family.

• Close the door. The sinks, shower and bathtub drains as well as the toilets create a lot of flushing energy in a home. Be sure to keep the toilet lids down and the bathroom doors closed to prevent flushing your home’s good energy.

• Place your For Sale sign on the right side of your yard. The right side of your home (as you face your front door from your yard) is the active (or yang) side of your property. Since you want you home to “get moving” use your yard to your advantage.

• Check the feng shui Flying Stars on the front door. Every year a different positive or negative feng shui Flying Star sits on your front door.  A classical Feng Shui consultant will be able to tell you which Star is on your door and how to remedy the challenging ones and activate the positive ones.

Here’s to speeding up the sale of your home!

How to Take a Compass Reading

In Classical Feng Shui directions are key to setting up your feng shui correctly because unlike Black Hat/BTB/Western/New Age feng shui Classical Feng Shui is not based upon your front door.  You will need to know where North, South, East, West, NE, etc. are for Classical Feng Shui.

Now when I say Classical Feng Shui I mean these types of feng shui (did you even know there’s more than one kind of feng shui?  Most people don’t.):

  1. Compass feng shui – This type of feng shui is great for creating overall balance and harmony in both your home and office.  Black Hat/BTB/Western/New Age feng shui is loosely based upon this type of Classical Feng Shui.
  2. Men Gua feng shui – This is feng shui that is personal to you and is based upon your birthday.  Once you have your birthday you can determine what your 4 personal best directions are for Success (think career/money), Health, Relationships (personal and at work) and Wisdom (making good decisions for yourself).  This type of feng shui is very simple to do and because it’s specific to you it’s a great way to dip your toe into the feng shui waters.  I tell you everything you need to know to set up your Men Gua (or what I call Personal feng shui) in my book ‘4 Easy Ways to Ignite Your Love Life & Fatten Your Wallet’ which you can get here: www.MoreLoveAndMoney.com
  3. Flying Star feng shui – This type of feng shui moves around and is based upon the stars around the Big Dipper.  Flying Star feng shui is a great way to determine where the best areas of your home and office are for the year, which months are good for launching a promotion, getting married, asking for a raise, starting a new exercise program, etc.  When you use this kind of feng shui it’s like having the answers to a big test ahead of time.  Go here so you can find out more about Flying Star feng shui.
  4. Xaun Kong Da Gua – This type of feng shui is used to determine where and when to put water features on your property to attract weath.  I don’t recommend you do this yourself because putting fountains, ponds and pools in the wrong place can create money and other problems for you (infinity pools are a major wealth drainer no matter where they’re located).  You really need to hire a consultant who knows all about Xuan Kong Da Gua to do this kind of feng shui properly.

There are a number of other types of feng shui but these are the ones I use the most.

So back to the compass.  I often get questions from people like: “Is the front of my house North?”  or “Do I put the Career area of the ba gua on my front door?”  or “How do I use my compass?”

The easiest way to determine N, S, E, W, NE, etc. in your home and office is to figure out which direction the sun rises.  The sun comes up in the East every day so an easy way to figure out where the directions are is to stand in your home or office and face the direction the sun comes up each day.  From this you know that:

  • The east area of your home/office is in front of you
  • The south area of your home/office is on your right
  • The north area of your home/office is on your left
  • The west area of your home/office is behind you

An even better way to determine directions is to draw a floor plan of you home, figure out where the center is, stand in the center of your house with a compass and stand facing the direction that the arrow is pointing.  The arrow (usually red or black) on a compass always points north.  So when you stand facing the direction the arrow is pointing you know that:

  • The area of your home/office that’s in front of you is north
  • The area to your right is east
  • The area to your left is west
  • The area behind you is south

It’s really that easy.  Plus if you ever get lost in the woods you’ll now know which direction to go to get back to your car.
